as an 'oak parker' living day-to-day in 'frank lloyd wright land', i was amused that they said this restaurant was developed based on his designs. when we walked into the dining area, i felt like i was in a hilton garden inn atrium :) BUT, aside from that and the dellZ touristy stuff, the food was really tasty and the service was SUPERB! the hostess put our napkins in our laps FOR us, our server was very attentive...come to think of it, there were about five people waiting on us. but it never felt overly imposing. the steakhouse wedge had the MOST amazing blue cheese dressing (it IS wisconsin, you know ;), my friends steak was perfection and my seafood dish was rich and incredible. oooh, and get the french martini--crazy good!

I have frequented Fields at the Wilderness many a time over the years. I do enjoy the atmosphere, service, food and drinks, and have never had a bad experience there. I frequently order your typical steak dinner but have never been dissatsfied with any portion of my meal to include salad, veggies or dessert. I would even recommend just going to the bar and ordering an appetizer and a drink. I would highly recommend their expresso or cappuccino martini. Or any martini from their barstaff for that matter, they have great presentation about them and I have never been unhappy with their service. On one negative note though...I do think that over time the prices have gone up and menu selection has gone down.

I've eaten each time I've been to the Dells, and have never been let down. The entrees have been quite good, and the lump crab and shrimp appetizer is amazing. The service staff is attentive, and as knowledgable as I can hope for. I'll absolutely be coming back here each time I'm in town.

I haven't read any of the other reviews yet only because I don't want to be "influenced" in my own writing but I am really surprised by the overall number of stars!! My experience was awesome!! I thought the ambience was great. I know we were at the Dells but even then it's nice to get away for a nice dinner. The service was excellent and our waiter was "tops"!! We brought our 4 year old. Please keep in mind he is very well behaved and it was no problem. They have a kid's menu so I'm assuming they don't mind the little ones. They were very "good" to him and very friendly. My husband and I both ordered the prime rib. Hubby ordered his medium well and I ordered mine well done but not burned. Our steaks came out PERFECTLY. I have never had a restaurant make my steak the way this place did. I alway order the same way and everyone either undercooks it or burns it. When it's undercooked I send it back preparing for the burned piece of meat I'm to receive shortly. But here my steak was perfect the first time and by perfect I mean cooked all the way through without ANY charring and it was literally "melt in your mouth" good!! The sides we ordered were as good as any we've had. It was a little pricey but I'm prepared to pay good money for great food!! I highly recommend this place. We can't wait to go back. We may make another trip to the Dells just to eat here again!! =]

The prime rib was excellent, I highly recommend! The service was great, and look forward to eating at Fields on our next return to the Dells.

We had dinner at Field's on 2/4/2012 during a short stay at the Wilderness. What a fantastic meal! The lobster bisque was excellent and I have never had better salmon. My husband enjoyed his filet as well. We were seated near the middle of the restaurant, but in a nice section of just 4 tables. The numerous staff members that waited on us were knowledgeable and attentive. I think some of the reviews here may be by people that are not accustomed to spending on fine dining and atmosphere. This is an experience that is well worth it. Make your reservation before you go. You will not be disappointed!
(5)Kimm E.
Un-relaxing, rushed meal! Our service/bus people were so eager to clear our plates that I felt I was constantly interrupted and protecting my food from disappearing. I had just told one service person that I didn't want any more wine when another one came and grabbed the bottle (I thought he was going to pour more for my husband) and he filled my glass before I could say anything, finishing the bottle. What happened to having a breathe between courses and being able to actually chew your food. Are you done yet? Hell no, there is still food on my plate, I'm justing taking a break and enjoying my husband.
(3)Ginger M.
My husband and I had the absolute best steak ever here. We went the first night, even though we weren't that hungry and had lobster bisque and salads. The lobster bisque was so frigging good that we came back a second time. We ordered steaks, and I don't know what they did to them, but they were fork tender, even though they were well done. Just absolutely amazing!

I'm really kind of surprised at the reviews here. Not sure if people are just so used to the $3 t-shirt mentality than a dinner that costs more than $5.99 off a value menu offends them or, maybe, just maybe because I live near Chicago, I'm just used to more fine dining, but this place was fantastic!! As Mike F said, the lump crab & shrimp app was fab. If you eat crab you know when it's actually fresh versus the stuff that comes out of the can. This was very fresh. The meals at our table were the full rack of ribs, the veal piccata, the lobster thermidor and I had the porterhouse, blackened. Meals include soup or salad and your potato choice and a veggie. I have to say that this was one of the finest porterhouses I've had. The strip side was so much better than expected. Also, the kids menu had about 8-9 choices and Aidan loved his chicken fingers and fries. I also had the Steak & Vegetable soup. It was more like a stew and had a depth of flavor to it that screamed "made from scratch". Look, I fully recognize that the Dells is fully of plenty of schlock, but Field's lived up to my expectations. Yes, it's not cheap at ALL, but the menu is on their website and if you don't check it out before going then you only have yourself to blame. Our waitstaff was phenominal by the way.

This was by far the best restaurant in which I have eaten in years. The seafood special with stuffed grouper, salmon and ah hi tuna was superb. And Jim makes a great lemon drop martini!

We made Thanksgiving night reservations here weeks in advance. We decided to do something different this holiday and made the ride up to Wisconsin and leave the cooking to the people at Field's. This review could have been 1-star or it could have been 5-stars all depending on what happened from the time we walked in the door to the time we left. We showed up about 10 minutes early for our reservation time and were notified that they were running about 15-minutes behind because people were sitting longer than expected. So, we took our two kids under the age of 6 into the bar and had a couple of drinks while we tried to pre-occupy them. A half hour later, I went to check on the table and they said that they were setting it up. 15-minutes after that, a full 45-minutes from our entry into the restaurant we still didn't have a table. Thank goodness for iPhones because our girls were content playing, but everyone was starving. During this time, the teenager hosting the check-in computer was obviously overwhelmed and became rather rude, IMO. I tried my best to empathize with her, but she clearly had lost control of the situation. We certainly could have weathered the situation, but her attitude made it worse - not to mention there were empty tables we could clearly see. Here is where the review goes from 1 to 3-stars. I asked to speak with the manager (which is something I NEVER do) and he came right away. He was apologetic, very professional and courteous. He worked hard to make it right and made sure we had our food as fast as possible. He also bought us our first round of drinks. The waitstaff were very attentive and working hard on this holiday away from their families. The food was very good as we had the traditional thanksgiving dinner. So, thank you to the manager and his wait staff but hopefully they will address their front desk situation and plan better next holiday.

We had our holiday party for work here once. First of all, it is crazy expensive. I would never pay those prices out of my own wallet for what we had. The salad with poppy seed dressing was decent, but not wow-worthy. My fillet, which I ordered medium-rare, came out totally overdone. I asked the waiter to send it back, and he asked me to cut into the center so he could see. Excuse me? Besides, a medium-rare cut of meat shouldn't be much less pink on the outer parts anyway. So, when my new steak returned, everyone had pretty much finished eating...and the steak wasn't that good anyhow. If I'm going to a pricey restaurant that labels itself a "steakhouse" I want a melt in your mouth, call your friend on the way home to tell her about it steak. Everyone else seemed okay about their meals, but no one was gushing about the food. I suggest trying the Dell Bar instead, which I hear is worth every penny!

We had a very nice meal at Fields. 6 adults, 5 kids. Everyone ordered something different and everything was pretty good. We are from Chicago area and are familiar with the quality of premium steakhouses. We were pleasantly surprised. While nothing was spectacular, everything was decent to very good. I had the lamb loin which was very good. The dry aged strip steak was decent. The prime rib was very good. The only quibbles that we had were the martinis had only 1 olive; we asked for more olives and got 2 more - not exactly generous! Also, the vegetable of the day was butternut squash - also lame! Service in general was good. Ambiance was nice - we were seated near the piano bar and the pianist took requests from our kids. All in all, I would highly recommend this place for a nice dinner at the Dells.
(4)Mike I.
About as good as it gets for dining in the Dells, but compared to Chicago steakhouses: not even close. I have dined at Fields three times now and all three times I would say my meal was good, at best. Definitely nothing to rave about, but when you are in the Dells, which is a dining hell, this is probably the best (and most expensive) of what is available. Their signature house salad has shoestring potatoes on it, along with some creamy dressing (not Caesars, or is it?). It's all right. The steak I had last time, a filet mignon (not by choice, as it was a pre-set menu), was blah. In fairness to Fields, pretty much every filet I have ever had is blah as lean meat=flavorless/pass the A1. Since my choices were filet, chicken or fish, I went filet. The side potato tasted very, very, very, reheated and their dessert, a chocolate ice cream cake, was just okay. Drinks were okay: their signature margarita had way too much mix in it, but they did have Spotted Cow on tap, so I was happy (can't get that in IL).

Grade: C Okay food, outrageous prices. Skip this place and go to the Del-Bar.
(3)Jaime C.
This place was terrible from ambiance to food and service. The service was horrific and the wait staff seemed to be clueless as to what their jobs were. They were uninformed about the menu and unable to answer questions. Once we got past ordering our exceptionally long wait for the food began. Once the food arrived it was bland, uninteresting and overpriced considering how terrible it was. Nobody came to check on us throughout the meal (good luck getting your water refilled etc) to see that we were attended to, and when we were finally sick of being there (after nearly 2.5 hours) we had to flag someone down to even get our check. Given the fact that two people paid nearly $90 to eat here I expected much MUCH better. Save yourself the irritation and go to McDonald's instead. And don't even get me started about the old man and hooker at the table next to us.
(1)Tom Z.
The food was good. I didn't think it was great compared to the price paid. The prices were high but the food wasn't quite up to the price paid. I would have given the restaurant a higher rating if the prices were a little lower. As Sarah B. said "I'd be interested in trying this restaurant again, but probably not on my dime." I agree with her statement.
(2)Mark V.
WOW! I have eaten at some nice restaurants before and I would have to say that Fields rates right up there at the top. The service was spectacular and the food was perfectly cooked and delicious. We had a filet special, a peppercorned filet dinner and our daughter had the steak & vegi soup. My filet was MW which is how I ordered it. It was cooked perfect, juicy and tender. I could literally cut it with my fork. The asparagus, dbl baked and risotto were also very delicious. Anyway, I am sure people dont want to hear all of the food we ate. But you will be treated very well and you will not be disappointed in any way. The piano player played our song!! Moonlight Serenade. Great night!!!

Very disappointed. We have been going to Fields for the last ten years and always loved the food as well as the service so you can imagine our surprise when both were lacking when we had dinner on Saturday, July 2. We should have known we were in for trouble when it felt like our waitress had a little too much caffeine in her system as she rushed through the specials of the night, whipped around our table in a frenzy, and zipped off to take care of the next table. The restaurant was not full, so we were not sure why she was in such a hurry. When the appetizers arrived, the steak quesadilla was fantastic. The steak was tender. The caramelized onions melted in your mouth and the pico de gallo added just the right amount of heat. The Sante Fe pizza however has gone through a bit of a transformation and lost of bit of its former pizzaz . It still has a nice crunch, and we enjoyed the taste of cilantro but missed some of the intense seasoning that was present in years past. However, we thought the evening was back on track. Once we finished with the appetizers, things went downhill quickly. When our salads arrived our waitress had forgotten one salad. When the main courses arrived, one of the steaks was clearly overdone. Rather than taking it away promptly and offering another, our waitress indicated that she would have to get the manager. The manager came and questioned our host who showed the steak and was then offered a replacement. However, by that time the rest of us were almost finished with our meals. I would have expected a comped meal. Our host, however, was offered a free glass of wine. For the rest of the evening, our waitress avoided our table as if we had the plague rather than showering us with service- go figure. Fields has always been one of our favorite Restaurants. We were disappointed to see a change in service and food quality.

incredible....we have dined at many high end restaurants and this is worth every penny from the service to the meal. the lobster bisque was great as was the bone in filet with the peppercorn topping. my wife loved her pizza. with the money...great atmosphire with wood burning oven.
(5)Sarah B.
While the servers were all very young (high school or just graduated), they were attentive and knowledgeable. The interior is stuck in the 80s, with neon lighting, leather captain-style chairs, chrome and glasss, and green spiky plants. The food was decent; while the lobster bisque amazing, salds very fresh, the actual steaks were mediocre. There are better, less expensive steak houses in Wisconsin (try the restaurant at Ho-Chunk--very good!). I do like that, as with most Wis. steak houses, salad and starch (ie pototatos) come with your meal, and are not ala carte or family style. I did have a very delicious chocolate gateau. The wine list is short, limited and slightly expensive for a restaurant not in Madison or Milwaukee. I'd be interested in trying this restaurant again, but probably not on my dime.

preface, i live in chicago and have been to many top rated steak houses......both there and across the country....so maybe i am jaded. very, very average steak for the money.....this is supposedly one of the nicest places in the dells...and we were staying at the wilderness so we gave it a try........too bad for us....you have to remember, you are in the dells...where it's nothing but chain garbage cuisine....so you have to kind of resign yourself to that level and lower your expectations i suppose. the very young hostess and waitstaff was kind of clueless, and really didn't offer any help as for seating preference or menu rec's.....the ambience was ok, but all the views are of a parking lot. the only thing that was good was the wine. my advice if you are staying in an equipped condo at the dells for dinners...............go down to the super walmart grocery store (surprisingly good), and then use your kitchen and save a lot of money and disappointment.

Let me add my voice to the choir: if you can get someone else to pay for your meal at Field's, do it. There are other restaurants in Wisconsin Dells that give you more for your money. When I ate there last week, I ordered an 8 oz. fillet for $37. It arrived on a plate with one sprig of yellow pepper and one sprig of red pepper. I asked myself if I had died and arrived in a hell serving California cuisine. Then I remembered my side of squash was served to me in a separate bowl. The quality of the food was unremarkable. The standout of my meal was the lobster bisque. I also appreciated the strong mojitos. The service? Let me put it to you this way: I feel like I did back in high school, where crowds of popular kids are pretending to be nice to me because I'm with my parents. If I didn't dine there with my parents, I bet the quality of service would have decreased dramatically. Finally, Field's says that patrons can wear business casual clothing on its website. You're in the Dells, after all. I'd advise you to spiff it up if dining there. The female servers are dressed to the nines and the waiters are wearing tuxes. They bring you hot towels at the end of your meal. If you arrived straight out of the waterpark, you may feel out of place.

In one word...delicious! We celebrated a birthday tonight at Field's. It is a Saturday night in June so we had reservations for our group of 6. We were seated and gave our drink order. I had a Cosmo - see picture. Specials tonight included filet and fish options. Members of our group tried the filet duo which had a peppercorn glaze and another with a blue cheese topping. I ordered the shellfish medley. Yum! Lobster risotto, scallops, shrimp & a small lobster tail. All cooked to perfection! Our family lives an hour away so we are semi frequent guests of Field's. The food & service is always wonderful!
(5)J K.
Ambiance in the bar is fantastic... Low lighting, great piano player/singer - Stephanie. Service leaves a bit to be desired in the bar. If you sit at a high table off to the side of the bar, be prepared to walk up to the bar to get your own drinks or wait forever for someone to come to your table to take your order. Bartenders are friendly. If you're looking for wine, I'd skip the house Pinot Grigio. Go for something more high-end for a better taste. Restaurant: two of us required our meals to be GlutenFree, and luckily, the waitress was very knowledgable (and said she also had celiac) and said that almost anything on their menu could be made GlutenFree. They do not have GlutenFree rolls, however, but will bring wheat rolls to the table and plop them onto your little plate before you can even say no. The salads were delicious, and the vinaigrette dressing was tasty. The prime rib, however, left a lot to be desired without the au jus, which is how it's served for people who can't have gluten. If I had known it would be so tasteless without the au jus, I would've ordered a steak instead. It wasn't plated in any special way, like you'd find in a comparable restaurant in Boston or NYC. Beware - while you're eating - of waitresses and bus girls trying to take your plate away every time you set your fork down. I think one girl kept coming to our table - maybe 10 times (!) - to try to remove plates when we weren't finished eating yet. It was a bit comical after the first few attempts. Oddly, this was on a Monday night when they weren't even busy, so it wasn't as if they were trying to rush us out of the place to turn over the table. Our main server was very attentive, though, and wonderfully considerate. Someone else delivered the meal to our table, though, and we rarely saw that original waitress again. I'd consider this a gluten-safe restaurant, since they seem knowledgeable about celiac and were willing to accommodate our GF diners (and I didn't get sick!). However, I think If you want a place with a GlutenFree menu, I'd recommend one of the many restaurants in the Dells area with dedicated GF menus where they don't simply omit the sauce to create a tasteless meal. I'd recommend this place more for its bar and its fabulous pianist/singer. The bar is a quiet, romantic spot to hang out with your spouse or date, listen to beautiful music, and enjoy great conversation in a beautiful ambiance. On a side note, I grew up in the Dells and used to go to Fields regularly at their previous location. The food there was stellar and service impeccable. The ambiance here is better, but the food has a ways to go to match the previous place.

Management has contacted me twice about this experience and has brought the issues to the servers and kitchens attention - we will try again as our first experience was excellent. Supposed to call first and will be taken care of! Finally a place that cares about their customers! Will update again!

Four friends for dinner on a Saturday night, met in the disco like bar and had a drink. Promptly seated for dinner at a corner table with windows overlooking the pond. We spent the next two and a half hours enjoying a leisurely meal and bottle of wine. Even though noted as a steak house, one had salmon, two had grouper done different ways and one had steak. Each had salad and different vegetables. Our service was very good, our waiter gave us plenty of time and we were never rushed. Great experience, pleasant surroundings, good food, signature service. Expect to pay minimum $50/person food and drinks.
(4)M J.
Very good option for finer dining in the Dells. A bit pricey, but steak was prepared perfectly and service was excellent. When the family goes to the Dells, a dinner at Fields is a must.
(4)Harold D.
We had dinner at Fields last night. We've looked forward to it since we planed a long weekend in the dells, it's on our list of favorites. I must say we were very disappointed, the service was so in attentive. The food was good as always, its a shame about our servers. Four adults and three children shared negative comments. Too bad we look forward to embers tonight which while dated has never let us down.
(3)Dina M.
If I knew how to give zero stars I would...so disappointed with this establishment. I have had the pleasure of enjoying some amazing steakhouses throughout the US and was looking forward to this experience. So let's start, first eating should be an experience...not a challenge to be served..second our cab driver had more concern for our well being than the servers (need a taxi..call Bill @ wi. Dells taxi. 608-253-7433). Well how much time do you have? I can go thru the waiter giving specials and than walking away never to return until it was time to split the check (however apparently the table of 4 executives next to us were more worthy of his time) or when I had to find out if we actually had a server assigned to our tables and could we order...and was told that....I should have closed my menu and set on the end of the table...really...this is. fine dining????? Positives.. Lobster bisque is good, Negatives....spinach salad dressing is very thick..yuck, streak is grainy at best...and if you don't meet their 'standards' of acceptable patron prepare yourself to fight for a half way decent time... Generous tipper would not describe my dining partner and I..whenever we travel together we always seek out the best and are sure to compensate the server above the norm...this server was not tipped...the cab driver was tipped generously especially when he was waiting for us as we left this horrendous experience!

For me, the heyday of the supper club was the 1970's. The decor matches that era and is nicely "retro." Being located at the Wilderness, it was nice that there was no dress code and children and resort casual attire are accommodated. All that said, you are coming for the food and our steak was pure perfection. The lobster bisque and crab cake were also excellent. Steak and seafood ARE expensive but the prices here weren't that much more than other supper clubs in the area. An extra $5 for on site convenience at most. The tossed salad and twice baked potato are also supper club classics. These were fine but not really special. The wine list had a decent selection covering a wide range of price points. We didn't have one; but, I would bet the bar knows how to make a great Old Fashioned.
(4)John B.
Very attractive rooms. The main dining room has wonderful light at sunset. Attentive and fast service. I enjoyed the three fish special that included three different fish all prepared with very different tastes.
(4)Tifiny B.
This is the second time we have been here and I will say I was very disappointed. My husband and I ordered the lobster bisque which was the best thing we had the whole night. It was very flavorful and tasted great. I ordered the 8oz fillet. My husband ordered the grilled salmon. Both needed seasoning and tasted blah. Very disappointed. I shouldn't go to a high end restaurant and have to add salt and pepper to it. The mushrooms and onions I had on the steak were just dumped on there. No presentation. They also lacked seasoning and tasted blah. We skipped dessert because we did not want another let down.

Descriptive phrase: fancy but approachable steakhouse. Four of us came to Fields At the Wilderness on a Friday night. We were seated promptly at our reservation time of 7:30PM. It's located on the edge of one of the Wilderness Resort's parking lots. Inside it's much larger than you'd expect from the outside. There's waterfalls, different levels, a bar with a piano-lounge singer. If you look too closely it is a bit dated, but it's not off-putting. From the get-go our service was superb. There were a lot of different people we interacted with, but you wouldn't know that from their professionalism. They operated as a unit. I started with a brandy Manhattan ($9). Very strong, but otherwise nothing notable. Everyone else split a bottle of Riesling ($26). On top of the complimentary hot rolls, our table split an appetizer special: Asparagus Fontina ($12). Four well-cooked pieces of asparagus wrapped in prosciutto with melted cheese atop. It was not a lot of food, but the cheese helped to make it feel more filling. Tasty and a worthwhile starter. I again ordered a special that night: the Cambozola Filet ($47), medium rare. Out came an 8 oz filet topped with mushrooms and cambozola cheese on a bed of a sweet and tangy sauce. Absolute perfection. Each bite was tender, the meat was just as red as I wanted, the cheese and mushrooms gave just enough creaminess to counterbalance the saltiness. It was enough to forget about the sub-par spinach salad that had come right before. The companion twice-baked potato, however, was delicious. For reference, a standard 8 oz filet was $40 and the porterhouse was $44. I would say my Cambozola filet was worth the $47, but my tastes of the normal filet wouldn't price it past $30. I did not try the porterhouse, though my friend enjoyed it. As one of the only legitimately nice restaurants in the Dells, though, the prices aren't outrageous. Overall I fantastic meal from my seat. Oh, and I loved the warm towels at the end.
(4)Rachel A.
Amazing. The restaurant is BEAUTIFUL. The staff is VERY professional and the food is amazing. Perfect for date night. Bring $$$ our bill (for two ppl) was $120. Worth it!!
(5)Andy W.
Beautiful setting. The fountain out the large picture window was amazing. I loved the crab cakes and shrimp cocktail. The steak and the Chicken Marsala were top notch. The price was amazing as well. $300 for our group of 13.
(4)Natalie S.
We had a coupon in our folder at check in at the Wilderness for a prime rib special at Fields from 4:30-6:30. The price was something like $7 or $8 off the regular menu price. Since we had planned on an early dinner anyways and since my dude and I are both prime rib aficionados, we gave it a whirl. I guess I was a little put off by the fact that my dude was asked to remove his baseball cap when we walked in. No big deal, but you're attached to a water park resort... really? Fine, no big deal. The food was... good. Not great. The prime rib was no better than, say, Outback's but a little more expensive. I asked for my prime rib to be as rare as I could get it and the waiter said, "the best I can do is probably medium, I'll see though". Huh? I've eaten prime rib at some of the best steak restaurants in Chicago and they have been able to bring it to me rare. What's the problem back there? Aside from that, the service was good, so I'll give them that. I get what they are trying to achieve here but as someone who has dined at classic steakhouses in Chicago, they really fell short for me. Expect a decent meal for a waterpark but don't walk in thinking you're going to a Morton's or Lawry's. It is what it is for the Dells. I know we'll be back to the Wilderness resort but I highly suspect we won't be back to Fields.

Go during the week when the crowds are small. Sit near the window, order some appetizers, Field's Salad, and some wine. Wonderful.
(5)Anna N.
Excellent food and service. The prices took our breath away though. Next time I'll check menus before I go out to eat! I order salmon at most restaurants and I think this place was the highest price I've ever paid.
(4)Jeff S.
Always great food and service. You can have a romantic vs family centered meal depending on where u sit. It's nice to have somewhere fancy that welcomes children. If that changes, I'll not be going back. Steaks are always tasty and cooked just right. The premier potato is worth it too.
(4)Aaron T.
We got there early and were the first people seated. The ambiance is different and pretty cool. All the staff was attentive and professional which was nice. A lot of places the wait staff will just hang out in the back and forget about you if they are super slow. The steak was good. Not as good as the top steak houses in Chicago, but at least in the same realm. My wife enjoyed their Salmon entree, but didn't feel the crust added anything to the dish. They also carried New Glaurus Spotted Cow, which is worth a bonus point.
(5)Stephen S.
Overall, it was good but waaaay overpriced for what it was. Everyone got steaks at our table. They were cooked properly but just didn't have the flavor that I would expect a $43 bone-in ribeye to have. Also our waitress was not very friendly and our toddlers food came out last. Finally, not usually a big deal but coming from Chicago where everything is nice and new -- the decor was really outdated. It probably was trendy looking back in the 80s.

This is one of the very few establishments within the Wisconsin Dells that offers a finer dining atmosphere. This is my second visit to this location, and the first time was better than the second time around. My husband ordered the porterhouse steak medium well, and it was cooked to the specifications, but I'm really starting to wonder what this movement is towards cooking steaks with a ton of butter and no sear. The first time I had a filet with a peppercorn topping on it, and I think that's why I did not notice this the first time around. Butter and steaks is not something I look for in a steak. I prefer a good sear to the meat to trap the natural flavor of the steak and not a mouth full of butter. As for the service... the first time was great. This time I was not even sure who our waiter/waitress was as I had a number of people come over and ask about our orders or if we needed anything. Granted they did take good care of us, but it just seemed odd to not see the same person twice. We're not loud, and we don't make fusses in restaurants so I know we did not offend them, but we were feeling passed around at the end and unsure of whom was going to receive the tip. We still left a 20% tip. Hopefully the person assigned to our section was nice enough to share since so many others put in work as well. If your looking to splurge, and like me prefer a steak to stand out on it's own without a pound of butter, I would recommend making a trip to Madison for a steak. If you like buttered steaks, then check this place out. Average cost for 2: $120 before tip

One of the finest places I've ever been to. Everything here is top notch and the pricing is reasonable for the attention to detail, the food quality, and the staff attention you receive. Staff - From the time you walk in the door until you exit you are treated very well. The wait staff is extremely courteous and knowledgeable about the menu. Our party had one member with a special diet and the waiter answered all of the specific questions on his own. He knew the menu and all the ingredients of it. They were very timely in their follow-ups and asking if we needed anything. Top notch. Entrees - Amazing. Our table ordered everything from filets to strip steaks to fish. Everyone loved their foods and most said it was some of the best of they'd ever had. The pricing for steaks is reasonable considering the quality and quantity served. Deserts - Some of the finest deserts I've ever eaten. The chocolate overload cake was extremely rich and the peanut brickle is the best desert I've ever had. Cheesecake was very good as well. Wine - The list and the pricing are decent. Our two bottles were ~ $100 and were at the midrange pricing level. There are some really nice winners on that list. They also have a nice "library" list for those looking for a top notch oldie! Overall, I'm never missing this place again. A very nice gem of a restaurant in an overgrown tourist town.

A 5 star restaurant in the Dells, reminds me of the 5 star Hotel Donaldson in Fargo, ND. There was a lot of open seating at 7PM on a Monday, yet it seemed to take awhile as to where we should be seated. Any seat is great here. I started with the signature lobster bisque. It's very dark and you really can't see your food. It tasted delicious, and there was something in the middle I thought might be shredded carrots or something. I'll be, it was lobster. We both got a house salad. The bleu cheese is extra and I had to ask for extra. But when it came out in the little boat like server, it was so creamy, it made the salad. We both loved our steaks. Basil got a big porterhouse, and I got the mushroom filet. It was the perfection you'd expect. The rolls were great too. Yes, we were too full for dessert. I was looking over all the brochures I could get my hands on. The Thanksgiving menu looked awesome, as well.

Our family goes to Fields at the Wilderness every year we when we come to the Dells. This is the only upscale restaurant we have ever found. There are very few places to get excellent food here. The prices are appropriate for the quality that you get. My seafood trio was very good. Our entire party of 13 adults loved their meals. The staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful. While this is arguably the best restaurant and food in the Dells it is not quite up to my rating of five star restaurant. Keep trying Fields to attain that fifth star. Reservations are the best way to go. We dined at Fields on Sunday, June 23, 2013 so the restaurant is definitely NOT closed. Enjoy!

Pricey but one of the best restaurants I've been too. Everything was great and the food delicious. The servers are nice people and don't bother you like in some other places.

Outstanding food and outstanding quality! Great team. Excellent service, flawless. Food quality was very high and very nice atmosphere. I can't imagine any better dining in the Dells area. Not to be a cheapskate but I went in with a coupon for a prime rib and they did not except it (Saturday night) which was not stated on the coupon. Oh well, we had a lovely dinner. Very pricey. Well worth it and we walked there from the Wilderness. I don't think many of the families "got it" and were there in cut-offs, etc... but his is OK. I don't think they knew what they were getting into. Very nice dinning, I am thinking just a little pricey to the same values in a better steakhouse in the Chicago area. Great desserts too.

I have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years including the original location which was pretty much in the middle of nowhere when it was located on Hwy 13 before the Chula Vista resort was even a thought. Let's just say the current location is beautiful. My most recent visit was on a Wednesday night in late October and I will have to say it was the closest I have experienced to a fine dining experience at this restaurant. Yes I realize it is adjacent to a water park, however when most entrees are $30+, I think people can put more of an effort into their dining attire than flip flops and rampant children. This evening it actually was a very contemporary clientele with a knowledgable bar staff and a slightly lacking, although personable, waitstaff. Like most "fine dining steakhouses" in the Dells, the menu seems to be a fairly similar facsimile to the original menu circa the 1970's. Not bad, but nothing new and innovative. I believe the garnish guidelines have not changed since opening. My husband enjoyed his lamb chops, and the chopped salad I had was quite delicious in addition to crab cake, which while it was equally good, not great, left me shaking my head. The garnish gave me flashbacks to the 80's and my time in LA. A pool of cheesy sauce topped with mesclun and the crab cake which was mounded under a pile of fried julienned carrot with two spaghetti antennae gracing the top! Interesting..... This is a beautiful location and it is pretty much what you can expect while you are in the Dells. There is so much potential waiting in that location, just wish someone would take it by the horns and step out of days past and embrace the culinary thoughts of the new millineum.

We have been here numerous times over the last several years and have never been disappointed. Good wine selection and great menu.

Yet another fine dinning experience! Two of us were seated immediately with no reservations. Servers were polite and attentive. My filet was cooked perfectly! Husband's lamb was too. I got the spinach salad with their bacon dressing. Loved it! Got the twice baked potato and that was delicious! This is an up scale restaurant so you do get high quality food...skip the house of embarrassment and head to the Fields!

We visited Field's last night for the 2nd time. The first time was 7 years ago. Our meal was delicious. Could not have been better. Our service was impeccable. Our waiter, Justin did a great job. I highly recommend this restaurant for an excellent meal.

We came here for a birthday dinner expecting a high price, small portion dining experience. To our surprise, the food was generous and tasty as one would expect from a premium steak house. The prices were fair for the food that we got. We ordered oysters for an appetizer and they were big, fresh, and crisp. For entrees we got the Colorado Lamb Chops and they were cooked right to your preference. We also ordered a seafood entree and it was also well prepared, as well as tasting delicious. We were underdressed because we just came back from the pool but they were really welcoming regardless and sat us right away. This place has a great setting, great food, and a welcoming environment for families visiting the Dells looking for a little higher end place to eat.!

A little stuffy of an atmosphere. I think the staff are paid not to smile or converse. This started at the hostess desk. Make sure the men in your party wear shirts with sleeves, or you will have to borrow their polo shirt Lobster bisque was good steaks were amazing. To spend more than $50.00 per person, I expect the staff to be a bit more human

I am updating my review of "Field's at the Wilderness". I had issues with my dinner (Bone-in Filet) and expressed those concerns on Yelp. I have to give a lot of credit to the Business Manager (Ryan H.) for responding to those issues via Yelp. To Ryan's credit, the feedback from my review has been brought to the attention of the kitchen staff....which is all a customer could ask for. I will give Field's at the Wilderness another visit next year on out yearly water park vacation. Thank you Ryan for being a real manager! Dave

Fight it out for parking or stalk someone for their spot, If you really feel the need to try this place. It wasn't worth the headache. Tourist trap of restaurants. The service was mediocre. Our waiter had a group of tables right next to each other but yet managed to ignore most of them. The steaks were insipid. The only decent part about our meal was the almondine green beans. Overpriced! Don't fall into this trap.

High prices, early 90's ambiance, really dark, and under-seasoned food were my takeaways from my Field's experience. From the decor to the dining experience, so much of it felt like it was from a different time. It's not a bad thing, it's just what it was. Our service (from the few people who rotated to our table to serve us) were great. It would've been less confusing had they established that 3-4 people would be helping us out from the get go but that's neither here nor there. My surprisingly-expensive steak was cooked properly but was very under seasoned. And my side of a baked potato was cooked properly but offered only a topping of butter and sour cream. It felt bland, sadly. Would I come back? Probably but I'd check out the bar and not order a steak.

The food was amazing and the service top notch. The cocktails were so good. I had the Jamaican Martini and they were kind enough to give me the recipe. Defiantly a special occasion place as it is pricey.
